A história de um idoso que não se conforma por ter sido abandonado pelo próprio filho num hospital Nas Urgências de um Hospital, Fernando Ulisses, um idoso nos seus 80 anos, é deixado pelo filho, Rui, que insiste em que o pai seja observado por um médico por causa de umas tonturas. Quando Ulisses é visto por um médico que, por precaução, pede para ele ficar essa noite no hospital, ninguém consegue encontrar o filho, cujo número de telefone que deixou no registo está errado. Ulisses é instalado numa ala do hospital onde um número considerável de idosos se encontra abandonado pelas famílias. Não querendo acreditar que o seu próprio o filho o possa ter abandonado para ir de férias de verão com a nora e netos, Ulisses acredita que tenha havido um mal-entendido e que o filho ainda o vá buscar. No entretanto, trava amizade com outra idosa, Ermelinda, que há meses que espera o regresso da sua filha que a deixou no hospital por, aparentemente, não ter dinheiro para a colocar num lar.

Luís hates Christmas. In the hospital where she is a doctor, she always offers herself to work for 24 hours in the emergency room on the 24th and 25th of December. When everything gets ready to be another bitter and solitary Christmas, a homeless is taken to the emergency room apparently with a pneumonia, despite refusing treatment. When Luís intervenes, she ends up recognising his father in the homeless man, with whom she cut relations circa 10 years ago.
