Meghana Bisineer

História

Meghana Bisineer is an Indian born artist, curator and educator. Making drawings, animations, films and installations, her work is shown internationally; across galleries, artist-lead spaces and international film festivals. Her analogous, site-specific, meditative, and process driven practice draws out an embodied investigation into the nature of time and personal memory in relation to place and landscape. Combining a largeness and a smallness of scale, at times working directly with the physicality of her exterior surroundings, Meg's work gives form to the vastness of our emotional landscapes and interior worlds. Capturing a tender appreciation for the fragility of us, here, now, the films offer a moment of connection. Tactile yet ephemeral, the work often exists on the cusps of performance and ritual, holding within its deep and poetic materiality a moment of becoming. Graduating from NID, India, and the Royal College of Art, UK, Meg is currently Associate-Chair of the Animation program, and Assistant Professor of Animation and Graduate Fine Art at California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and also Co-founder & curator of Eyewash Experimental Animation Salon with Christoph Steger. Life and work is made between Oakland, CA, London, UK, and Bangalore, India.

Filmes

Raining Through My Bones
Director
Experimental animation of paintings on walls of a hut in India with rhythmic music in the background.
The Stone
Director
At once a constant home and a constant void, we carry The Stone within, its ritualistic crafting becoming a microcosm of a home space - a heart space. Made during isolation in early 2020 this film evolved from a personal ritual, meditating upon a stone through repetitive drawing, bringing one back into the intimate interior world of the self as a place for rest and reflection. The Stone compiles 80 drawn studies made during this time, then filmed on the windows of four temporary homes inhabited in isolation during the early days of the pandemic. These drawings, threaded together incidentally and combined with layers of film from time previously spent across contients breathed life into a stone, and an animation blossomed.
//_sleeper
Thanks
//_sleeper is a short animation set in a dying, industrial town both familiar and unfamiliar. This is neither future nor past, but rather somewhere lost. Somewhere other. The film uses a mix of 2D and CG animation to explore what happens to a lonely figure when a mysterious anomaly appears on the fringes of the landscape. It aims to capture the strange sense of ennui, loss and anxiety that feels appropriate for our times.
A Journey Across Grandmother
Director
Goregeously drawn film gracefully tracing the various threads of a relationship between grandmother and granddaughter.
