Ricard Camarena bases his cuisine on Valencia’s local vegetable production. His constant search for harmony between flavours has seduced the critics and crossed borders. Alongside Mari Carmen Bañuls, the brain behind the management of their restaurants, the two form an indissoluble team which have overcome great adversity to achieve success, vouched for by two Michelin stars and the recent National Gastronomy Prize. The couple are enjoying their most balanced moment. Balanced? The Covid-19 outbreak has thrown them up against a hitherto unheard-of challenge: to reopen their restaurants with the uncertainty of the “new normal”. Heedless of the pandemic, the vegetable garden continues its natural growth cycle and offers the chef a new horizon of flavours.

Manolita Chen became in the mid-eighties the first Spanish transsexual mother who managed to adopt. Through the documentary she tells us about that process, as well as her experiences as a transgressive woman at a time when Spain was not yet socially or legally advanced. We discover a life full of bitterness but without rancor in between, where she nostalgically recalls her facet as a businesswoman and vedette, gradually managing to integrate into her hometown, Arcos de la Frontera, where she currently enjoys the affection and approval of her relatives and neighbors.

Ángel Delgadillo, 91, the last barber of Seligman (Arizona), continues shaving drivers who go out of the interstate highway to visit his town. Lowell Davis, more than 80, is the first inhabitant of Red Oak II (Missouri), a ghost town which he rebuilt through the restoration of its old houses. Three stories of perseverance and overcoming in what was once the road that connected the United States from East to West. Three survivors that managed to save the most well-known route in America.
