Nicole Bonnet é a filha de um falsificador de obras de arte que pede a ajuda de Simon Dermott, um desconhecido que recentemente invadiu sua casa, para roubar uma estátua. O pedido é feito porque seu pai, Charles Bonnet, emprestou sua preciosa Venus de Cellini a um prestigiado museu de Paris e sem ler os documentos, autorizou exames que provem a autenticidade da obra. Infelizmente a Venus não foi esculpida por Cellini mas pelo avô de Nicole, um exímio falsificador de esculturas. Quando os testes forem feitos ficará claro que a obra é falsa, assim como todos os quadros que Charles vendeu serão testados de todas as formas e será comprovado que ele é um falsificador. Mas Nicole nem imagina quem é que a está ajudando nesse roubo quase impossível de ser realizado.
