Urban, um órfão, serve como aprendiz a um ganancioso mestre relojoeiro. Quando Urban cresce, apaixona-se pela filha do relojoeiro Laura e quer casar com ela. Antes que isso aconteça, o mestre envia seu aprendiz ao mundo com a tarefa de procurar um relógio mítico que possa alertar sobre a morte. Ninguém sabe se o relógio existe, mas se Urban não o trouxer de volta, Laura nunca será sua esposa. Assim, o aprendiz de relojoeiro inicia uma longa jornada cheia de dificuldades, que deve superar com bravura, habilidade e bom coração.

Linda and Vanda, two good-looking women in their thirties, are inseparable friends and co-owners of a small bookstore in the city center. Linda is divorced, educated and practical, has a little daughter and a sense of responsibility. Vanda, on the contrary, is single and free, attracting men as a magnet, but none of them is able to keep up with her spontaneity. Edo, shy, sensitive, and introverted gay working with them in the bookstore, longs for love for ages too. The lives of this trio get finally tangled by several men, while everything turns up differently than any of them had expected.

The investigation is being led by an inhomogeneous pair of detectives - a greenhorn and local police cadet named Eisner and an experienced FBI officer Food, who has been sent to Europe by US President Woodrow Wilson himself.

A film based on a book by Jaroslav Kmenta tells the story of a mafioso who got rich by tax fraud of billions of crowns in transactions with petroleum products and who later tried to gain control of the state-owned petroleum concern. The main character is the gangster Radim Kraviec (Hynek Cermák). He was always capable of violence, but when his father is abducted and killed by a competing mafia, he is changed into a murdering monster.
