Depois de 14 anos longe da sua terra natal, Salomé viaja para a Ilha de Santiago, Cabo-Verde, para ver o seu irmão cuja vida está presa por um fio. Faz escala no aeroporto de Lisboa, onde Águeda, empregada de limpeza, a reconhece como "Mila", sua velha amiga de infância. Águeda convida-a a passar as horas de escala em sua casa, com as mulheres da sua família. Enquanto Salomé luta para desmagnetizar a dolorosa ligação com a sua terra, o espírito do bairro devolve-a à essência à qual ela pertence.
