O assassinato de um operário, Nelson Pereira de Jesus, ocorrido em São Paulo em 1978, provoca uma investigação sobre os motivos e as condições de trabalho numa fábrica do bairro do Brás. Santo Dias, líder operário que trabalha no mesmo local narra os fatos que envolvem a morte de Nelson e dá sua visão política sobre a situação dos trabalhadores do Sindicato dos Metalúrgicos e outras questões. Em 1979 Santo Dias também é morto em um piquete por um soldado da Polícia Militar.
