O filme transcorre nas sombras do regime de Franco, com um roteiro baseado em textos de diversos escritores espanhóis e um enredo desencadeado pelo retorno do misterioso Anxo (interpretado por Misha Bies Golas) à sua aldeia após desaparecer durante a Guerra Civil Espanhola. As pessoas ao seu redor descrevem aquela época, suas memórias e suas vidas ulteriores com a escolha entre submissão e resistência ecoando nas palavras de cada orador.
