Quando Stanley (Luke Wilson) viu Diana Evans (Denise Richards) ficou apaixonado e pensou em convidá-la para sair, mas é muito inseguro para isto. Após um ano este convite ainda não foi feito. Mike (Ben Affleck), o melhor amigo de Stanley, diz que convidá-la agora é o momento perfeito, pois ela acabou com o namorado. Stanley a convida e ela aceita prontamente.
