Um tipo de pássaro carnívoro gigante (Gyaos) é acordado numa ilha japonesa logo após os militares encontrarem uma massa gigante (Gamera) se movendo pelas águas do Pacífico. O filme acompanha a cientista Mayumi Nagamine, os militares Yoshinari Yonemori, seu superior Naoya Kusanagi e sua filha Asagi Kusanagi, tentarão desvendar o que são realmente este monstros que aterrorizam o Japão.
