O petroleiro Paul Sturges leva sua família de férias para a Bahia Azul. Lá, ele percebe que a cidade costeira desmoronou misteriosamente. Paul começa o dia com uma visita de rotina, com sua família, para inspecionar uma plataforma de petróleo nas proximidades. A situação se torna um pesadelo quando, das profundezas do oceano, um tubarão gigante surge: o demônio negro. Sob a ameaça constante do tubarão primitivo, Paul terá que encontrar um jeito de levar sua família de volta para a costa de forma segura.
