Os Operários apresenta as histórias de três primos hispânicos que imigram para os Estados Unidos em busca do Sonho Americano e acabam lutando pela sobrevivência em empregos temporários. O filme descreve a situação dos imigrantes mexicanos na América forçados a fazer trabalhos reservados apenas para eles, porém mal pagos. Por esses motivos, eles enfrentam vários problemas, muitas vezes lidando com crime, prostituição, drogas, e as pressões que a nova vida traz. A situação piora ainda mais ameaçando separá-los quando um deles consegue um emprego com um "viado" e começa a questionar sua orientação sexual.
