Um homem e uma mulher chegam em um café-hotel perto da fronteira belga e os clientes reconhecem o homem descrito pela polícia. Seu nome é Amédée Lange (René Lefèvre). Ele assassinou Batala (Jules Berry) em Paris e fugiu com todo o dinheiro da editora em que trabalhava.
