It is the summer holiday and little Mísa Horák has taken a few animals from the school's so-called "Corner of Living Nature" home to care for. But when he brings home two Angora rabbits, a starling, a little monkey, a tortoise and a small crocodile, his parents order him to take them away. He is helped by Káta, who offers to place the animals in the child's room of her family's apartment. Mísa leaves for her friend where the animals will hopefully be able to stay. Káta goes shopping. In the meantime, Káta's younger sister Minka wakes up and begins to play with the animals, who gradually run off in disarray.

Michal's father and his friends are stigmatized by their war experience and the post-war social deformations in which they took part either directly, or watched them cowardly and in silence. They are trying to repress their feelings of guilt and justify their behavior to the young generation with memories of their heroic war feats. Michal, however, does not want to have anything to do with their problems. He subconsciously perceives the unpleasant atmosphere in the family as well as his father's hypocrisy. After one of many quarrels with his father, he runs away from home, determined to go his own way.

Fantasia, beleza e imaginação em uma bela alegoria poética. Os moradores de um vilarejo assistem ao espetáculo de um mágico e seu gato, que usa óculos e, quando os tira, tem o poder de mudar a cor das pessoas à sua volta de acordo com o caráter delas. O fato assusta os adultos do lugar, que vêem o animal como uma ameaça, mas, ao mesmo tempo, atrai todas as crianças da vila.
