Após prometer a si e a todos, centenas de vezes, que ia parar de beber, Hervé decide se internar numa clínica de recuperação. Sua mulher e o filho já não o suportam mais. Incrédulo, de início, com o tratamento, ele vai fazendo progressos, amizades e, principalmente, se soltando, dialogando consigo mesmo, se abrindo com os novos amigos. A luta, porém, é árdua. Apesar da temática tentar levar para o óbvio, o filme não é caricato e, segundo o ator François Cluzet, foi o trabalho que mais o exigiu. Baseado na vida e obra de Hervé Chabalier.
