O jovem Tore busca em Hamburgo uma nova vida entre um grupo religioso chamado The Jesus Freaks. Quando ele encontra por acaso uma família e é ajudado por ela a reparar seu carro, acredita que tudo aconteceu por um milagre celestial. Ele começa uma amizade com o pai da família, Benno. Logo, decide morar com eles, sem saber que a crueldade virá de lá. Fiel à sua crença religiosa, Tore permanece na casa, embora seja frequentemente atacado por Benno, numa violência crescente. Tore precisa lutar contra o tormento com as suas próprias armas. Assim, uma luta perigosa entre as ações libidinosas e o altruísmo começa.

A film about the alarming events of the autumn of 1919, when the fate of modern-day, post WWI Europe was decided in Riga. Three world views clashed on the banks of the Daugava River – a national state for Latvians as proclaimed a year earlier, the Bolshevik revolutionary idea, and the resurrection of a monarchy. The reactionary monarchy interests were represented by German General Graf Rudiger von der Goltz, and Russian Colonel Pavel Bermont.

In October 1989, the part of the West Berlin borough of Kreuzberg called SO 36, had been largely shut off by the Wall from the rest of the city for 28 years. A lethargic sub-culture of students, artists, bohemians and barflys had flourished among crumbling buildings. Part of that microcosm is barkeeper Frank, semi-formally called 'Herr Lehmann' by friends and patrons. He hangs out drinking, sports utter disregard for anything beyond SO 36 and lazily pursues an affair with cook Katrin. His lifestyle is gradually disturbed, when his parents show up for a visit, things go awry with Katrin and his best friend Karl starts to act strange. Meanwhile, political turmoil mounts on the other side of the Wall.
