História

Considerado o pintor da guerra suja em Guerrero, Luis Vargas Santa Cruz é um pintor expressionista, diretor, produtor e roteirista. Sua obra cinematográfica oscila entre ensaio, experimentação, cinema poético e cinema híbrido. Ele é um artista mexicano que abraçou a arte total. Como pintor, sua obra é fundamental para a história da arte mexicana, com séries pictóricas como La expulsión del paraíso (Expulsão do Paraíso), Aicus Arreug (Guerra sucia), Aznad Etreum (Danza muerte) e Paisajes imaginarios (Paisagens imaginárias). Três de suas obras mais conhecidas internacionalmente são En el nombre del padre (Em Nome do Pai), Sin nombre (Sem Nome) e La bebedora de absenta (O Bebedouro de Absinto). Seus filmes têm sido exibidos em festivais de cinema na Espanha, Itália e México.
