Born in New York in 1946, Geoffrey Bowie Outlaw grew up in Greenwich Village and later in western Massachusetts. He attended elementary school and later at the Stockbridge School with longtime friend and Musician Arlo Guthrie. The two would act alongside one another in the 1969 film Alice's Restaurant as partners in crime who got caught dumping the garbage on Thanksgiving. Geoff was apart of the Berkshire Folk Music Society and later played guitar and sang for the band The Fugs. In 1974, Geoff moved to Austin, Texas where he worked at the Split Rail and booked many Musicians. According to his neighbors, Geoff lived the life of a hermit. He devoted the majority of his life to Music. He worked as a local Clerk, a horse riding Instructor at camp, a vivid storyteller and a loyal neighbor. Geoff was considered a local guardian angel to many whom he had watched over in his community for decades.

After getting kicked out of college, Arlo decides to visit his friend Alice for Thanksgiving dinner. After dinner is over, Arlo volunteers to take the trash to the dump, but finds it closed for the holiday, so he just dumps the trash in the bottom of a ravine. This act of littering gets him arrested, and sends him on a bizarre journey that ends with him in front of the draft board.
