Based in Mumbai, Raja (Arjun) lives a violent yet poor lifestyle along with his father, Banwarilal. Sivaraman belongs to a low caste and is a cobbler by profession. He was orphaned as a little boy and has since been brought up by a couple belonging to the lower caste. A trip to the 'agraharam' brings back memories of his childhood and he realises that he is in fact a Brahmin and the son of the head priest at the temple. Wishing to help his real family while at the same time unable to forget the parents who adopted him, he shuffles between the two vastly different worlds. Maheswar, a lower caste woman, waits for him back home while Gayatri falls in love with him in his new life.

Soon, Kamachi's daughter Selvi and Siva fall in love with each other. How Siva reconciles his uncle and marries Selvi forms the rest of the story.
In the past, the young Seethalakshmi became pregnant but she didn't reveal the father's identity. To punish her, the village chief Periya Ayya ordered her to live alone in a small hut and after the childbirth, he took her newborn son. Whereas, Dharmaraj and Varalakshmi got married. Periya Ayya then sent the baby to another village. Many years later, Sakthi comes back to his village and he becomes the manager of the village's temple. Sakthi thinks that he is an orphan. Afterward, Sakthi and Raani fall in love with each other. Soon, Varalakshmi's brother Sethupathi tries to rob the temple's costly things. On his first attempt, Sethupathi's henchmen fail because of Sakthi. The second time, he robs the temple's Kalasam. He then traps the innocent Sakthi and Periya Ayya dismisses him. Sakthi finally comes to know the identity of his parents : Dharmaraj and Seethalakshmi. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
Solaiyamma is a mother-less woman who is looked after by her father. She has been promised in marriage with her relative Balraj and they are in love. Vairavan is a heartless muscular man who spreads terror among the villagers and rapes the village girls. One night, Vairavan enters Solaiyamma's house and tries to rape Solaiyamma but she stands against him and Vairavan runs away. The entire village thinks that she has been raped including her relatives and then her father commits suicide. Thereafter, she is rejected by the village. Vairavan tortures her psychologically to spend a night with him. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
Sundarapandian, an orphan and angry man, is the henchman of a rich man Manivannan and he often went to jail for minor offenses. Karthikeyan enters his house as a maid and he falls with his daughter Kalyani. In the meantime, Mallaria, an orphan, tries to reform Sundarapandian and they fall in love with each other. One day, a poor girl Chellayi is raped and killed by a corrupted MLA. Sundarapandian and Mallaria finally get married, they decide to leave the village but they don't have enough money. Manivannan prepares his daughter's wedding with the MLA and Manivannan orders Sundarapandian to kill the innocent Karthikeyan. Sundarapandian, who is now a good man, decide to join the young pair. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
