Daniel Dale Johnston was an American singer-songwriter and artist regarded as a significant figure in outsider, lo-fi, and alternative music scenes. Most of his work consisted of cassettes recorded alone in his home, and his music was frequently cited for its "pure" and "childlike" qualities.

The Cutting Edge first aired in 1983 (a precursor to 120 minutes) on MTV providing viewers with a rare opportunity to intimately voyage the sounds, thoughts, work spaces and living quarters of the most interesting artists on the cutting edge of music. Host Peter Zaremba (of the fabulous Fleshtones) added levity with his wit and love of music and musicians. All Tomorrow's Parties is a 2009 documentary film directed by All Tomorrow's People and Jonathan Caouette covering the history of the long running All Tomorrow's Parties music festival. Described as a "post-punk DIY bricolage", the film was created using footage generated by the fans and musicians attending the events themselves, on a multitude of formats including Super8, camcorder and mobile phone. All Tomorrow's People is a name representing the contributions of these attendees.

Primeiro filme de Richrad Linklater, filmado em Super-8 e editado numa estação de tv a cabo de acesso público, no qual Linklater atua e cuida de todos os processos da produção. O filme nunca teve um lançamento muito difundido e só está disponível em DVD como bônus extra do filme "Slacker" da Coleção Criterion. O espectador constrói a imagem do artista ao ver sua vida privada: cozinhar, lavar roupa, falar ao telefone. Há encontros com outras pessoas, mas muito pouco diálogo.
