Gustad's Father
The story, set in 1971 at the time of the war between India and Pakistan, is based on the novel of the same name by Rohinton Mistry, an Indian now living in Toronto. "Such a Long Journey" takes place mostly in and around a large apartment complex, its courtyard and the street, which the municipal authorities want to widen so that even more choking diesel fumes can cloud the air. We meet the hero, Gustad (Roshan Seth), in the process of defending the old concrete wall that protects his courtyard from the street, and later he strikes a bargain with an itinerant artist (Ranjit Chowdhry), who covers the wall with paintings from every conceivable religious tradition, with the thought that all of the groups represented will join in defending the wall.

Inspector Khan
An urban contemporary film about adultery, murder and betrayal in the film noir style. A simple story to which the director imparts a feeling of unrest and disquiet, catching the city in its various moods. The film breaks generic conventions, notably in the presentation of the private detective through his deglamourised life and his process of discovery of 'who did it'. It is not constructed through his point of view at all. In fact the policeman and the detective, the fact finders, are in the dark about the crime, to the very end.

Naresh Tripathi
Science College Principal Tripathi is criticized by the college professors, as his younger brother Ajay failed the exam twice and fell behind by two years. Ajay does not do this and instead leaves the house, telling his brother that he will establish himself as a poet and then return home. He submits his poems for publication but is told that they are lacking. He falls in love with the beautiful Nikita (Mamta Kulkarni), the daughter of a wealthy industrialist. Ajay wants to establish himself before getting married, and relocates to Bombay. Upon reaching there, he becomes engaged to Bollywood actress Jyoti (suchitra Krishnamurthy), and starts gambling and drinking. Nikita moves to Bombay and finds Ajay, a ruined young man. Together they must try to set his life right, so that he can fulfill the promise he made to his brother.

One day, when its new owner is sleeping, the bird convinces a young boy to open the cage door. In return, it shows the boy a secret passage to get into the palace.

The movie revolves around Raju, a poor rag-picker, and his magical coat with a secret attached to it which changed his life. Soon, the secret is out to Raju's brother-in-law, who conspires to steal the coat even at the cost of harming Raju.

The story depicts the vulnerability of a man who is victimized by his wife who plots to prove his husband mentally insane. She is in disagreement with his husband on how her daughter should be raised and what she should become. She thinks that if she declares his husband insane she would be able to decide for her daughters future. She knowingly creates confusion and tells his husband that he cannot be sure that he is the father of their daughter. Captian starts to believe that the daughter who was everything for him may not be his daughter and becomes insane and his wife gets the custody of her daughter as she wished.

Amulya
