O ex-condenado Armstrong Cane (Ving Rhames) retorna ao bairro em que morava, como um homem mudado, que quer assumir a velha igreja e congregação de seu pai. Mas a vizinhança está tomada por drogas e gangues. Os que conseguem, mudam-se para áreas mais prósperas e passam a seguir um esperto pastor (Ricardo Chavira).
