By inviting scientists to share memories of what sparked their imaginations, Wonder House is an exploration of how childhood objects and environments develop young minds. Taking these insights as a starting point and adopting the metaphor of a young girl discovering an old house, Wonder House combines live choreography and stop-motion animation with real scientists' voices to offer a synthesis of fact and fiction, science and art, imagination and reality.

O gesto final de tirar a aliança do dedo mostra bem a vontade que tem de deixar para trás a sua vida na Holanda. Anne parte então para a Irlanda, onde escolhe ter uma existência solitária e vagueante, caminhando por entre a austera paisagem de Connemara. Num dos seus passeios, descobre uma casa onde vive uma espécie de eremita, Martin (Stephen Rea).

Michael Farr é professor que cria seus dois filhos sozinho desde que a sua esposa morreu dois anos antes. Ultimamente ele anda vendo e ouvindo coisas estranhas tarde da noite na sua casa. Não está certo se está tendo simplesmente pesadelos horripilantes ou se a sua casa está assombrada. No festival literário internacional, Michael trabalha com uma escritora de livros de terror e começa a acreditar ele está vendo fantasmas.
