A introvertida Raquel trabalha como empregada para a família Valdés há 23 anos. Amargurada e comportando-se como um membro da família, passa a entrar em choque com a filha mais velha, levando Pilar, sua patroa, a contratar outra pessoa para dividir com ela as responsabilidades da casa. Sentindo seu posto ameaçado, Raquel expulsa a nova moça com terrorismo psicológico. Essa situação vai se repetindo até Pilar contratar uma jovem inexperiente do interior, Lucy, que se mostra a única capaz de romper a barreira que Raquel construiu em torno de si.
