За «золото» Ле Мана сражаются немец Шталер на Ferrari и действующий чемпион — американец Майкл Делани на Gulf Porsche. 24-часовой марафон требует максимальной концентрации и всегда проходит на пике нервного напряжения. А на этот раз Делани нервничает вдвойне: год назад по его вине на этой же трассе произошла серьезная авария, в которой погиб его друг Белгетти, пилот Ferrari. У главных героев фильма семьи Мартино всегда были моторное масло и бензин в крови. Они строили машины и участвовали в гонках на протяжении нескольких поколений. Кольцевые гонки, ралли, гонки на выносливость – их привлекало абсолютно всё. В силу обстоятельств глава семьи Марио должен уступить дорогу своей молодой и исключительно талантливой дочери Джулии. К ней присоединяется 40-летний брат Лорис, бывший гонщик, не вполне надёжный, но с исключительным чувством гоночной траектории и очень хорошо разбирающийся в моторах. Вместе они должны вернуться на трек и победить, узнав по пути, что значит быть семьей и насколько это может оказаться тяжело.

We follow the Newman-Haas (Andretti) racing team through the process of building, testing, and racing for a season. This includes extensive race speed on-track footage, including some pre-race footage with a full squad of cars. From time to time, we check in with a small shop building/restoring one of the first roadsters Mario Andretti raced; the finale includes him taking it for a spin.
