Night Mix
Non-narrative film, highly manipulated: tape-over-frames, ink-tinted, bleached and drawn into. As a montage, abstractly and rhythmically intense. Super-8, silent, color, b&w. Dedicated to Bill Gubbins.
let me come in
Bill Morrison’s experimental short features decayed film reels from the lost, German silent film Pawns of Passion (1928).
Expansion
Expansion remixes the images of Matsumoto’s Esctasis into an more colourful psychedelic short.
White Hole
Avant garde/experimental film. A mesmerizing trip through the psychedelic vastness of space.
humming, fast and slow
The screen is divided again and again until the picture arranged in ever changing strips bursts into whirring dynamic.
La grande dame
This film is an in-camera portrait of the place Ville Marie Royal Bank Building in Montréal.
Зубы обезьяны
A slow and ugly fairy tale based on the drawings of inmates at a psychiatric clinic where LaLoux worked.
Love, Dad
A short film about ties and gaps between a child and a parent. The author rediscovers letters her dad used to write her from prison. That love seems to be gone now. She decides to write back in hope to find the connection again. She puts in writing what could not be said: blaming him for family´s break-up but also trying to understand.
Market Street
All images were filmed on Market Street, one of the main streets in San Francisco. The visual was carefully composed frame by frame, while shooting on the street. This project was commissioned by Exploratorium and San Francisco Arts Commission for the outdoor screening event, A Trip Down Market Street 1905/2005: An Outdoor Centennial Celebration.
It has to be lived once and dreamed twice
In the sixth great mass mortality of the earth, humankind became extinct. Their technology had recently progressed so far as to deconstruct the algorithms of evolution and allow artificial life to develop on Earth.
Escape 360
One man, one camera, one goal...to capture the essence of adventure. An experimental, often abstract new type of filmmaking process creating color rich visuals combined with a lush soundtrack that grounds the project. A unique cinematic experience.
The Moaning
An experimental film on the geographic and historical voyage of the peculiar sound of the so-called 'Basque ox carts'. Said sound, which could be heard until the decade of the 60s in part of the Bay of Biscay, has now practically disappeared from the Iberian peninsula. The film travels from the silence of the sound in our territory today, until its reappearance, following years of research, in the central area of Brazil.
Ville Marie
Someone dreams of falling from a building.
Emergence Collapse
Emergence Collapse, the collaborative project of Berlin-based artist and filmmaker Rainer Kohlberger and Viennese electronic music producer Jung An Tagen is nearly beyond description (and perception): An assault on the senses that is at once euphoric and harrowing, at once completely alien and uncannily evocative, their work is perhaps the perfect artistic manifestation of existential angst. Jung An Tagens frighteningly frenetic and earsplitting dissonance is complimented perfectly by Rainer Kohlbergers constantly evolving, neon-tinged visual freak-out. The result is relentless and painfully overwhelming, but like a horror movie, Emergence Collapse demands – and ultimately rewards – your attention.
In Loving Memory (of Who We Used to Be)
Puberty, sibling rivalry, and school crushes make up the small world that 10-year-old Vicky lives in. But the memories of birthday cakes and carefree days begin to get muddled when persistent anxieties set in to haunt the past. The clutter, clash, and recollection of her mistakes, insecurities, and triumphs reconstruct the ever-changing phases of Vicky's tween life. A stranger to her own self, director Vicky Lee reflects on the naive girl that she once was.
Sphinx On The Seine
SPHINX ON THE SEINE is a film poem: the beginning of a metaphysical journey, musing on a series of brief, but enigmatic images taken from around the world. These images follow one after the other, but geographically span thousands of miles and large passages of time between each cut. Notions of time, space, and memory collide within a visual fabric of abstractions, landscapes, textures, superimpositions and graphic forms, to suggest the first moments of dream-sleep.
Trans/Figure/Ground
A film about uncanny valleys and the space between. Painted 16mm film undergoes a monstrous transformation becoming neither analog nor digital.
Prom Night
A Lynchian depiction of self-transformation in the social media age. Steeped in saturated colour, unnerving cinematography and bold sound design, this chamber piece depicts a young woman’s confrontation with impostor syndrome and racialised beauty standards.
Trafic
Short film by Tomonari Nishikawa
Handmade
In stark contrast to video, "Hand Made" focuses on the grain of the celluloid and the organic nature of emulsion. It was created by contact printing images with a flashlight in a darkroom without the use of a camera, labs, digital editing or any type of sound equipment.
