A millennia ago, the Wen people lived in the beautiful, fertile land of Yali, where they built the statelet of Wen. Yali came under Zhou rule, but in the Valley of Xuanyao, a sacred place associated with the Wen's deity, Liu Liliu, a few resistance fighters covertly continued the struggle against their would-be conquerors. It is now spring. A young man who has been dispatched from Haojing, the Zhou capital, steps foot into Yali. His mission is to find the Valley of Xuanyao, where forces hostile still against King Xuan remain in hiding, and to bring them under the yoke of Zhou.

In modern day France, an exhibition is being held at the Palace of Versailles of the "Necklace of Marie Antoinette". The necklace had been used in a fraud case that marked a chapter in French history and later went missing. It has been reproduced using real diamonds. Fujiko has sneaked into Versailles, as has the gang of Lupin, Goemon, and Jigen - all with the intention of getting their hands on the necklace, which is valued at over 3 billion yen in today's money. But they bump into Inspector Zenigata. Lupin is the one who manages to foil Zenigata and grab the necklace. Yet the instant he lays hands on it, everyone is enveloped in a mysterious light. When they regain consciousness, they notice they have gone through a time slip to 1785, before the French Revolution when Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were around.

He spends his days with his friend, Helsing XVI, a descendant of vampire researchers. Acting as Helsing’s ghost writer, he writes a fantasy romance novel about the events he witnessed in his past. One day, Alucard is dressed as a “vampire” at a Halloween costume party celebrating the publication of his book. There, he meets Lucy, a university student who dreams of becoming a dentist. As he gradually becomes more attracted to Lucy, his desire to become human grows. For a vampire with the gift of immortality, it is the equivalent of suicide.

There is a certain hotel which caters to people who have lost their way. People trying to get their lives back on track, or simply trying to find out where they went wrong. One of the people staying at this hotel is Wolf, who playfully follows the self-absorbed young Anna around the hotel. No one knows what he did before he came there, though he used to joke that he was an assassin. Anna is a one-hit movie actress who now spends all of her time cultivating "patrons" to support her.
