It shows the story of an Englishman soldier (Wilfred Owen) and a nurse (his bride) during World War I. It also includes actual footage of contemporary wars (WWII, Vietnam, Angola, etc.)

Kundry is the main character - one might read the film as the story of her redemption rather than that of Amfortas.

Prospero wants reason to triumph, Ariel wants his freedom, Miranda a husband; the sailors want to dance.
