Первая мировая война закончилась, в Сербии катастрофически не хватает мужчин. Женщины в каждой деревне превращаются в остервеневшие банды, которые охраняют своих выживших стариков и калек с оружием в руках, но одновременно нещадно их сексуально эксплуатируют. Кроме того в местном баре есть и ещё одно средство воспоминания о мужчинах: паучья настойка на спирту. Выпить её – и являются погибшие мужчины деревни. В деревне, о которой идёт речь, есть и ещё одна проблема: один из местных, вернувшись с войны, сошёл с ума и заминировал виноградник, который кормит всю деревню. Каждый день женщины тащат жребий, кому в этот раз идти собирать урожай. Сцены смерти, что характерно для всего балканского кино, обставлены с искромётным юмором и зрелищными аллегориями. В деревне живут две сестры – Мала Богиня и Огненка. Они хотят любви, и оправляются в трехдневное путешествие для поиска мужиков в другие деревни и города, их ждут мистические и любовные приключения

The plot of this film can be viewed from a two different levels. The first is universal and deals with the psychological theme of need for competition in the group, highlighting the need for the victory, which in life usually does not depend on the true virtues of the winner, so the result is usually tragicomic. The story talks about the choice of the most noble work. Selected participants arrive at the guesthouse on the border between Croatia and Serbia to prepare for the final act of the competition and the jury's decision. Seven competitors have a rather narrow view of the world. Even when the big events, such as ethnic conflicts in this part of the Balkans, the contestants insist to proceed the competition and to choose the hero of heroes, even though the very idea of competition has become anachronistic under the pressure of current events (the anger of the local Serbian population of the newly established Croatian authorities).

Сербия, зима 2004 года. Лазарь возвращается домой после долгих десяти лет отсутствия. Он стал совсем другим человеком: снова обретя свободу, он решил сбросить с себя тяжелый груз прошлого и начать новую жизнь в стране, которая казалось бы тоже стремится к лучшему будущему. В его прежней квартире теперь живет Ясна, одинокая мать, воспитывающая двенадцатилетнюю дочь Йовану, больную аутизмом. Она оказывается беженкой из Боснии, незаконно проживающей в квартире Лазаря уже какое-то время. Ясна, чей муж так и не принял их больную дочь и ушел из семьи, тоже хочет забыть свое нелегкое прошлое. Лазарю становится жалко мать и дочь, которым некуда идти, и он разрешает им остаться. Постепенно между тремя людьми, изолированными от общества, зарождается особое чувство родства...

The film follows three young people from Belgrade, a city that offers nothing but pragmatism and not many life opportunities.

When the war in Yugoslavia breaks out, an army officer who's ethnic Slovenian yet still believes in Yugoslavia, decides to move to Belgrade. The country continues to fall apart and so does his family failing to find acceptance there.

Loud, ready to fight, they are a problem in school, in youth organization, in town's command. And when they get used to normal life, one of them gets killed by Chetnik renegades' ambush. The comrades wear their uniforms again, take their weapons and succeed in revenging their comrade. When they return to school again, they are determined to pass the maturity test as well...
