After a restless night he is awoken by his doorbell insistently ringing. Through the peephole, he sees a stranger. He doesn't know why that man is there but is immediately certain of one thing: he represents a terrible threat. He quickly dresses and manages to sneak away, no doubt in his mind that the stranger is pursuing him, and that the nightmare has only just begun.

A fugitive bursts into the home of two Catholic nuns. In an attempt to save his life, they hide him from the marauding military patrols, despite the danger they face if they are caught.

After a robbery at a bingo hall, the girlfriend of one of the robbers escaped with the help of another woman tries to recover the loot from the raid. The problem is that some cops also want to do with the loot, to finance political assassinations.

The plot, set in Havana in the last period of Fulgencio Batista's dictatorship, follows a young girl whose aspirations to obtain a scholarship in America, against the odds, are paralleled with her reading of Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea".

The film is based on the historical event known as the Protest of Baraguá.

The story of Cecilia is a story of the society that dominated 19th-century Cuba, a society divided between whites, blacks, and those who were mixed, the mulattos. (Since the Spanish conquistadors killed off the Indian population in Cuba not long after they took over the island, there are no mestizos, or those of mixed-Indian blood in Cuba as in other Caribbean nations.) At any rate, the drama about the life and loves of Cecilia (Daisy Granados) takes place against the backdrop of graphically violent mistreatment of slaves and the rumors of a slave rebellion after the Cubans hear of slaves turning against their captors in Haiti.

In 1672 Cuban revolutionaries launch an uprising against the Spanish who are occupying the country.

Tulipa, an old strip-teaser from a traveling circus, is replaced by a younger, more wild woman. She must teach the job to her successor or cling to an act that she values as true art.

A mercenary from the Bay of Pigs invasion escapes in search of protection and is taken in by a peasant woman who ignores his identity.

A doctor committed against the revolution decides to escape in a boat. A criminal friend introduced him to a modest revolutionary family to cover it up. During the events aspects of a society in transition are reflected.

Решено его и Марию утром под видом жениха и невесты переправить в горы. «НОВЫЙ ГОД»: В ночь на 1 января 1959 года три палача Батисты истязают в тюремных застенках попавшего к ним молодого борца за революцию. Под пытками юноша умер. Но до палачей докатилась весть о том, что Батиста пал, что победила революция. Попав в руки революционеров, они тщетно пытались доказать, что действовали по принуждению.

В основе фильма — эпизоды жизни простой крестьянки Доменги, личная драма которой тесно переплетается с событиями народной борьбы. У Доменги есть сын, но он, подло предав родных, друзей и общее дело, очутился в стане врагов. Став одинокой, Доменга решает покинуть свой дом, но любовь к родной земле оказалась сильнее чувства горя и одиночества. Доменга остаётся. Все свои силы она посвятит защите интересов крестьян.
