A pandemic spreads and the death toll soars. In a venerable hotel an elevator gets stuck. The pregnant Irene, the receptionist Mia, the janitor Kristof, and the actress Liz are trapped. On a radio they hear the world outside collapsing. As hunger and thirst increase the elevator turns from safe haven to death trap. As they lose hope they let go of built-in defenses and get under each others skin. Kristof and Mia have a common past laden with betrayal and sorrow. Irene is married to a man who abuses her. Liz is torturing herself over the death of a child. Finally Irenes water breaks and there is no alternative but to cut the cable that holds the elevator and plunge towards an unknown fate.

While Hilma is unable to hear the sounds of the world around her, she can feel their vibrations with the help of her father's old tape recorder. Recording sounds in her everyday life, she attempts to use the playback to communicate with a boy in her neighbourhood. When he is disinterested, she realizes that she shouldn't have been so quick to jump to conclusions.
Line Producer
Selma is a successful chick lit author who decides to start over, writing "real literature". At the same time, she embarks on parallel relationships with two different men - the bookish Nils and a rock star wannabe named John.
Producer
An assassin drags his victim into the middle of the snowy woods, digs a pit, positions him next to it and prepares to finish the job. His victim seems to want to go out singing though.
First Assistant Director
When Manfred Stjarne is stabbed to death outside the Brada cider factory his wife Claire has inherited - suspicion falls on Polish worker Jan Kowalski, with whose wife Manfred was having an affair, but Jan is found hanged - later evidence suggesting foul play. Benjamin Wilkes, an ex-psychologist who helped Manfred select redundancy candidates, is killed in the same way as Manfred, putting disgruntled ex-Brada employees in the frame, but a third slaying implicates a former patient of Wilkes, who has connections to the Stjarne family. A newly loved-up Isabelle and Pontius start to fool around whilst on surveillance, taking their eye off the ball and allowing this suspect to confront Claire.
