The film depicts one working day in the lives of travelling workers in different parts of Croatia: Baranja, Slavonia, Zagorje, Kvarner and Banovina. Through interviews and by employing the so-called friendly-camera method, the director portrays these exhausted, sleepy people and their dreary daily grind. Their lives are particularly well reflected in the early morning scenes of salesmen asleep in the most peculiar places and in the most curious ways: leaning against a fence or a wall, sitting on the railway tracks.

Югославский короткометражный мультфильм для взрослых, получивший «Оскар» в 1962 году. Сюжет в сущности очень прост и рассказывает о мечтах, смысле жизни и извечном вопросе взаимоотношения полов. Герой фильма «Сурогат» — странный толстяк треугольной формы — приезжает на пляж. Из багажника автомобиля он достает несколько предметов из резины и начинает надувать их с помощью насоса. Очень скоро у мужчины оказывается палатка, матрас и небольшая лодка. Счастливый, он садится рыбачить, а когда решает отдохнуть, достает из багажника резиновую женщину. Но та бесцеремонно отвергает его ухаживания.

В основе фильма лежит действительный факт — весной 1957 года на автостраде Белград—Загреб по вине неизвестного водителя легковой автомашины произошла тяжёлая катастрофа, в результате которой восемь человек погибло, многие ранены.
