The children's detective story describes a thrilling and cheerful search for a lynx that someone stole from the zoo corner of the house of pioneers and young people (the creators apparently assume that large carnivores are commonly bred in the children's facility). However, the film is made completely ingeniously, the naïve plots hardly catch the eye. In one of the last roles, Vladimír Menšík will introduce himself as a police captain, leading a long-complicated investigation

Two somewhat crazy friends Milan (Milan Lasica) and Julo (Július Satinský) resolve to have a peaceful holiday in an old guard house that Julo has bought from his uncle. But in the early hours of the very first morning they are woken up by the loud sound of a trumpet. It is the severe supervisor of a nearby recreation center forcing the children out of their beds and out to exercise drill. To protect themselves from the children, Milan and Julo put up signs saying "private property". The first to disturb their privacy is the supervisor's little granddaughter Miluska, who uses their shed as her gingerbread house. The children in the camp are disgruntled, the supervisor's program bores them, and so they make up all sorts of other things to do.

Two days before Christmas. Zuzanka and Tomás, friends from a kindergarten wander off during a walk. They admire toys and decoration in shop-windows. Zuzanka shall receive a sledge as a Christmas present and Tomás even a desired little brother. At a shooting gallery Tomás aims at a target on the trunk of a blue elephant which can call in Christmas. The impatient Zuzanka pushes to her friend and he shoots directly to the elephant's red eye. Things which the owner of the shooting gallery warned about happened: the sun popped on the sky, the snow melted and all Christmas shopping has stopped. Both pushful children decide to get a new eye for the elephant so that everything can be set right.

Eleven-year old Mísa has the temperament of a proper boy and endless problems with the grown-ups. It is no wonder that he longs to become an adult without further delay. Mísa keeps house together with his father and has various duties. After a failed attempt at dish-washing he goes off to the research institute where his father is working on an important invention. He is trying to produce a substance that would make poultry and other animals bigger and thus help the struggle against famine in the world, but so far he has only managed to produce a shrinking substance. After his father leaves the laboratory, Mísa mixes up different ingredients and makes the growth substance. He drinks it and instantly becomes an adult. His father, conversely, turns into a toddler after drinking the shrinking substance with his beer by mistake.

In order to disappear as quickly as possible, they jump into the nearest car and leave, finding on the way that a little boy named Jirka, son of the car's owner, is with them. They take him to a cottage where Cihák's eighteen-year old daughter Milena attends to him. Jirka first treats Milena with hostility, but as days pass, the "prisoner" and the "guard" become close. Milena cooks for the boy and takes care of him, but nothing can intimidate the dauntless Jirka and he seeks for the first opportunity to escape.

В основу фильма положены действительные события, происшедшие в чехословацкой деревне Мокрая Гора в 1948 году. Цирил и Рудла работали на лесопилке и были друзьями. Цирил руководил бригадой. Рудла занимался общественной работой. Однажды руководство лесопилки и Рудла решили создать в деревне сельскохозяйственный кооператив. Выступавшие открыто против артели были арестованы, и все же в кооператив вступило всего несколько семей, большинство же, несмотря ни на что, отказались. Цирил понимал, что Рудла своими неправильными и поспешными действиями только озлобил крестьян...

Когда-то монтажник с автозавода Лойза Король спас жизнь королю Таманского архипелага. В благодарность за это король перед смертью назначил Лойзу королем-регентом при своем малолетнем наследнике. В действие вступают силы иностранного капитала, которые имеют виды на таманскую нефть. Они стараются не допустить Лойзу к власти на Таманском архипелаге. После ряда перипетий, под угрозой физического уничтожения Лойза подписывает документ об отречении. К этому времени на Таманском архипелаге произошла революция.

В центре фильма — история семейной династии, связанной с пражским «Колбенко», заводом ЧКД по производству локомотивов. Дедушка Антонин, уже пенсионер, сын Рудольф, мастер цеха сборки локомотивов, и внук Антонин, перспективный футболист. В фильме также рассказывается история дочери Рудольфа Веры — каждое поколение имеет свои представления о жизни и не может идентифицировать себя с другими. Это реалистическая концепция жизни рабочего класса, не обремененная идеологией.
