Widowed Bhavanidevi rules her palatial home with an iron hand. Nothing is permitted to be touched or moved without her permission and approval. She has two sons, and one daughter. She dotes on her daughter, Shobha, and son-in-law, Khubchand. When her eldest son marries a young woman, Sheela, Bhavani is enraged because Sheela did not bring in enough dowry. To teach Sheela a lesson, she burns her foot, leaving a petrified Sheela submissive and open to even more abuse. When Bhavani's second son gets married without her permission, she is angered even more, and will not have anything to do with her new daughter-in-law, Durga. When Durga insists on living there, she is permitted to do so, not knowing that she has now entered a household where she will be another abused and submissive slave to her dominating mother-in-law.

Rivalry has existed between Ranimaa and a small and hostile community. The passage of time has only widened the gap between the two. When Ranimaa's heir apparent, Seema, attempts to make peace, she is severely reprimanded by Ranimaa. Then Seema meets with Ajay Jain and both fall in love. A chance meeting between an Assistant Scientist, Shekar, and an established stage dancer and singer, Anjana, results in love. Wealthy Shankar and well-educated Suresh are cousins and the best of friends. A marriage is arranged for each of them (Shankar's with Madhumati, Suresh' with Shanta), but Shankar's father is against the couples meeting in person and instead each cousin meets with the other's intended. During the meeting Suresh falls in love with Madhumati and scheme switch brides. Shekar, a guide, leads Rekha and her professor father into the jungle only to steal a valuable necklace from a giant tribal idol. The tribesmen blame the theft on the interlopers and threaten the life of the professor until it is returned. It is up to Tarzan and Rekha to save the day, traveling to to Dehli to retrieve the gem.

Bombay Police are baffled by a series of crimes - all at the hands of arch-criminal "Black Cat" who leaves his calling card at every scene of the crime. The Commissioner assigns this matter to this best plainclothes agent, Rajan. Rajan's investigations lead him to suspect Professor Gupta, who is also the brother of his girlfriend, Nita. Rajan decides to use Nita's love for him, and spies on Gupta. When Nita finds out, she is enraged at Rajan, and blames the police who she feels are covering-up their inefficiency by making a scape-goat of an innocent man. Rajan fails to prove that Gupta is somehow involved with "Black Cat", and the Commissioner gives him a deadline. If Rajan does not apprehend Black Cat within that deadline, he may be suspended or even dismissed from the police force. With no clues whatsoever as to the whereabouts of Black Cat and it's gang, Rajan has the challenge of his life, which he may not be able to fulfill.
