Yapi Panda Abdiel Tambayong (born 12 July 1945), best known by his pen-name Remy Sylado, is an Indonesian author, actor, and musician. Owing to his wide interests, in a 1999 article The Jakarta Post termed him "a walking encyclopedia of arts and humanities. Born Yapi Panda Abdiel Tambayong, Sylado is known by a variety of pseudonyms. His most common one, Remy Sylado, is taken from the opening notes of the Beatles song "And I Love Her", which are rendered as "Re Mi Si La Do" in solfège, or in numbers as 23761; that number, according to Sylado, also represents the date of his first kiss: 23 July 1961. Sylado has also published work under the pennames Dova Zila, Alif Danya Munsyi, and Juliana C. Panda. Sylado was born in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on 12 July 1945. His father, Johannes Tambayong, was an evangelist, though he also composed music. He moved to Semarang, Central Java, at a young age, studying in elementary school there. From a young age he showed an interest in theatre, writing his first stage dramas while still in junior high school. His early education was entirely in Catholic schools, though after secondary school he began to study in schools for the theatrical arts in Surakarta and Jakarta. Giok Lan’s father, Tan Peng Liang (Ferry Salim), was an immigrant Chinese merchant who had a very successful tobacco business in Batavia. She becomes deeply involved with him, and causes a scandal when he has Tinung move in with his family. The film is set between 1930 and 1950, and unfolds the story of Giok Lan and her parents: Tinung and Tan Peng Liang where Tan is eventually ruined when his rivals begin to attack him. This is owing to the significant contrast in socio-economic and cultural background, as the love of these last two characters face a series of difficulties.

The film tells the story of Lola and Cindy. Lola is a lonely child who, along with her gang members, always gathers and walks on the streets of Blok M, where the youths are. Meanwhile Cindy is forced to become a prostitute to meet the needs of her family. Lola awares of Cindy situation and befriends her.

Doddy, a faithful husband, becomes a suspect. The office secretary, who adores him, suspects him. His wife, Atik, also suspects him because, when working out of town, she sees the behaviour of her male colleagues. Furthermore, Doddy has to work late because he has to accompany the company’s director during a business meeting with a Japanese company. In addition, he has to find a lady escort for his guest, and at one of the dinner parties, he is photographed being very close to Neni, the escort. Atik refuses to accept Doddy’s explanations so he has to find Neni’s pimp to prove his innocence. Instead, the escort agency’s bouncers beat him up. Finally, Atik believes him, especially when she finds that Neni is going to be married to the director.

A romance occurs that results in marriage, even though his uncle does not agree with it, for the sake of a family tradition. After the marriage, Maruli is disappointed. He is reminded that his intention to study medicine is to help his mother, who was also left behind by her husband, Maruli's father, after her breast removal. He then returns to his wife, Kartika.
