Angela, an Italian-American woman, after many years returned to Sicily to attend the funeral of her father. During the ferry trip she meets Salvo, a teenager boy who claims to be hunted by the Mafia, because of a quantity of drugs he stole to some criminals. She decides to give him a ride and the two embark on a journey through Sicily. His amorous attentions are soon obvious, and leads to a fairly obvious ending.

Vittorio, an American novelist teaching in Rome, meets the beautiful but damaged Bianca and they rapidly fall into an urgent, tempestuous affair. He's hesitant over their relationship since she seems to thrive on conflict and is constantly baiting him into physical altercation. Bianca gives Vittorio an exquisite leather belt as a gift; he knows immediately that she wants him to whip her with it. Driven by his craving for her, Vittorio complies to Bianca's desire. Their relationship escalates into a dark realm of S&M which becomes more and more self-destructive.

Слово «шорох» в данном случае не очень-то уместно, ведь речь в картине идёт о страстном трепете, который может охватить тех, кто занимается любовью. Однако герой ленты, уже немолодой богатый предприниматель Габриэле, больше нуждается в объекте для своеобразного словесного эксгибиционизма. Он уговаривает молодую и красивую Сильвану стать слушательницей тех любовных историй, которые случались с Габриэле в прежние времена. А для Сильваны рассказы этого дельца и пережитое ею самою с юным любовником настолько перемешиваются, что она даже не может отделить одно от другого и окончательно выбирает себе роль вечной слушательницы при старом донжуане.
