The movie is about three brothers and a sister. The brothers include a would-be tough guy thug, a sleazy lawyer and an anarchist. The anarchist and the sister (Maria Strzelecka) have a thing for each other that is more than just sibling affection. Each of them is facing a problem of their own making. A lot depends on how they deal with their issues, as there isn't much lower they can stoop other than being dead. In the beginning of the film there is a lot going on, which makes it a little hard to follow, but that goes along with the theme of chaos.

The Milewskis are a middle-aged couple. Witold and Magda, both occupied with careers in managerial positions, create a solid, well-matched relationship. Each Sunday, each of them cheats on their partner, and they both know nothing about it. Everything changes when Witold's younger brother Franek, a handsome geologist, shows up at their place.

The main character has quit school, makes a living by taking pictures. He seduces a nurse who treated his head wound which he earned in a fight. They witness a hit-and-run driver killing a little girl on a sled. He builds up an elaborate trap by putting a doll dressed as a child down the hill in the path of a car. The man hits it and thinking that he hit a child - runs. Marek takes pictures of him and tries to blackmail him to use his car for a week. He wants to use the car to win back the nurse, who could not cope with his humors...

About 20 soldiers break out of the encirclement, including the commander - Major "Dziadek" - and his deputy - Captain Stańczyk. Partisans are trying to get to the ruins of a nearby castle; This is where the last ammunition container was supposed to fall. The commander sends two men to scout. Only one returns, and that is without ammo.

Герои данного фильма — майор Свентовец и поручик Олевич, оказывающиеся за несколько дней до конца войны в небольшом польском городке на отбывке увольнительной. Свентовец, прошедший сибирские концлагеря и примкнувший к советской освободительной армии вызывает отвращение у местного сопротивления, члены которого в свою очередь бывают дома у девушки майора — Евы. Но, их слова вносят сомнение в его разум, а дружба с поручиком Олевичем, которого спасают партизаны, меняет его взгляды и едва не подводит под трибунал.
