An actor returns to Poland after 12 very unsuccessful years in the United States only to find himself entangled in a noirish situation reminiscent of California in the 1940s.

Выдавая себя за Яцка Бен Зильберштейна, открывает фиктивное австрийское консульство во Вроцлаве. Но и этого ему было мало, у безнаказанного мошенника все растет аппетит на получение всё больших прибылей… Фильм был награжден на кинофестивале в Сан-Себастьяне в 1989 году.

В основе сюжета кинодилогии - исследование сложных судеб коммунистов-антифашистов разных национальностей. Фильм основан на биографиях реальных людей, чья жизнь вобрала в себя самые драматические этапы истории 30-50-х годов XX века.

Картина повествует об экспедиции на другую планету. В результате аварии в живых осталось лишь трое астронавтов — Марта и двое мужчин, Пётр и Ежи. Связь с Землёй потеряна, выжившие решают поселиться на берегу моря и дают начало новому человеческому роду.

The film depicts three days in the life of a state farm director, during which he celebrates his 40th birthday. He was adopted by four godfathers who have helped him throughout his life and have reached positions of prominence themselves. He makes a mistake at work turning away some foreigh investors and is required to cover the losses, but even his godfathers are unable to help him. He regains affection of his son instead.
