To celebrate Sleeping Beauty's awakening, the cruel stepmother organises a dress-ball in the Wonder Castle and invites the characters of all tales and their two fathers, the Grimm-brothers. The stepmother announces total peace, but in fact she is preparing for a coup d'état with a phoney prince, a phoney Sleeping Beauty, through intrigue and violence in order to change the tales.

The story of the film with a touch of journalistic atmosphere takes place in the autumn 1919 after the fall of the proletarian dictatorship. The main figure is Zilahy Kálmán, a high-school teacher, very much attracted to Ady's ideology. He is, at the same time, a rational minded sober character keeping a certain distance from the chaotic events. During the first months of the terror of the Whites, he takes a stand for his persecuted colleague, and with his wife's help, he hides Pálos, a Communist commissar in his flat.

Szegedi Anna, a lawyer having just arrived back from Naples wants to divorce his husband, also a lawyer, because since a hot night she has only been thinking of Laczkó, the handsome businessman.

The bitter film grotesque focuses on a Socialist Mafioso. Vágó, the enthusiastic young propagandist is put up at Apuka (Daddy) of the outskirts, Dávid. In the hands of Apuka everything becomes money and he skilfully avoids inspection and controls. In order to help his little family, he sells his rabbit husbandry as mutton, he practises usury on and blackmails his tenants, their rooms are operated as cigar stores.

Aunt Ilka, who likes company, opens her house standing in the middle of a six-acre rose garden in the little town for the golden youth of the town. As a result of her benevolence, the tenants are in the position to adore not only the roses but a nice bunch of to-be-married girls of the town.

Kerekes (Antal Pager) believes he is wanted by the police when his friends play a practical joke in this unusual comedy drama. He returns to his hometown where he was accused of turning a Jewish druggist and the druggist's wife over to the Nazis. With his friends following him, Kerekes tries to find out what became of the couple after they were deported. After being subjected to a mock trial by his friends -- and found guilty -- Kerekes becomes despondent and attempts to kill himself. Flashbacks and hallucinations are employed to tell this story that occurs during the Eichmann trial. Both the film and Antal Pager gained some unwanted publicity when a Variety article from April 23rd, 1967 accused Pager of being a Nazi collaborator for his role in an anti-Semitic film during World War II.

Barta has been investigating for a year in the murder case of a professor of medicine. Keller, the victim, has been shot dead in his own villa. Barta joins the closest relatives and they all travel to Dunaszentmárton by ship for the inaugural ceremony of his tomb.

The film is a parable about honesty. The tired and sick country physician, doctor Weiss, has worked all through his life. He could finally withdraw from working, but his young successor leaves the district because of a trip abroad. Weisz is asked to continue working for some more time. For all his protestations, nobody seems to listen to him. Eventually, in spite of the protestations of his wife and his bad health condition, he consents.

At the beginning of the thirties the sour, boring life of the Hungarian small town is enlivened by a charity action: with the lead of the beautiful wife of the attorney funds are raised for the orphans.

Miskei, the popular and dynamic president of a co-op falls in love with Mari, the attractive wife of the elderly Pató. The deeply feeling woman is fed up with the service beside the haughty land holder, she is longing for tenderness and a child. The passion of Miskei is growing when he sees how crudely, humiliating Pató treats her. During a powerful summer shower, when chance brings them together in an abandoned press house, he storms on Mari confessing love. The woman refuses him bitterly. Miskei calms down and he keeps on expressing his love and high esteem with the woman by steadfast and tiny compliments. Early one morning Mari leaves her husband and sets off to the city to learn and to begin a new life.

The corrupt leaders of the small town do their best to please the masseur.

Antal Pager defends a strange woman, Maria Lazar, and the next thing he knows he is named a co-respondent in a divorce case. The unhappy young woman is unable to hide her love for Mihály and therefore her angry father sentences her with the traditionally suitable penalty of unfaithful women, she is put on the stormy waters of Balaton in a boat without oars or scull.
