It's very human and nice story about lofty princess (her father is amiable but incapable - unforgettable performance of S. Neumann) and good, nice, kind and well-principled young king (prince) who tries to make tender her calm heart to get married with her. After being refused (she's very capricious), he conclude to make her better. He start to work as a gardener at her castle (in secret) and successively bring she to her senses...The story continues when already reformed princess and the young king (she learn about his real identity later) have to take refuge from troops, that princess father (old king) has sent (of course he took a bad and mean counsellors advice). They have to take shelter by several ordinary and poor families, which are always very friendly and give them a help... Of course the tale has happy end.

Обработка двух глав одноименного романа Марии Майеровой. Удивительно жизненное и убедительное повествование о жизни рабочей семьи в течение шахтерской забастовки, ещё полностью незвучащей примитивной идеологической риторикой; безмерная бедность и гордая решимость всё время поражают, равно как недостаток жизненного контакта фабричной атмосферы, так и пролетариата. Нужда 1889 года имела подобие голода.

At the end of the First World War, Nikola Shuhai and his friend from the army desert. On the way home, to the village of Kolochava, they both find refuge with baby Jaga. Jaga mixes them a drink to protect them from the deadly bullets. The bachelors must promise to marry her daughters in exchange for a drink, or they will be punished. Nikola finds his home village in poverty. He stands against the powerful and the rich, and they turn the gendarmes against him. Nikola hides from them in the woods, where he will remain even after the end of the war, because nothing has changed for the villagers. Out of poverty and hopelessness, other men join Nikola and together they raid the wealthy. Nikola distributes the obtained booty to the poor and needy, who see him as their protector and hero.
На почтовое отделение небольшого городка совершают нападение бандиты и похищают 50 тысяч крон. В момент нападения на почте находились три чиновника. Один из них был случайно убит. Второй слегка ранен; от страха он упал, ушиб голову и не оказал сопротивления. Третий пытался защищать кассу, но, видя бессмысленность борьбы с вооруженными людьми, отдал её бандитам и остался жив.
Все окружающие осуждают поступок молодого человека, считая, что он проявил непростительное малодушие. Не только близкие друзья и знакомые отвернулись от него, но даже невеста отказалась встретиться с ним. В выигрыше оказался чиновник, который упал и разбил голову. В глазах жителей городка он герой. Его назначают начальником почты.
В дальнейшем обстоятельства складываются так, что молодой человек узнает, как и кем было совершено нападение. Не желая выдавать сознавшегося ему преступника, он находит оригинальный способ реабилитировать себя...

The film depicts the adventures of Kacenka (Zdena Kavková) and Vincek (Vlasta Burian), two innocent country bumpkins who live in a Czech small town, and the various jobs that Kacenka has once she moves to Prague, that beautiful capital city. Our heroine will have to bear difficult working conditions and to make things worse, she falls in love with a fake aristocrat. Fortunately her companion, Vincek who is also in Prague, has an unrequited love for her. Though he is the cause of many Kacenka's problems, Vincek finally will help and resolve her loves troubles. And of course there is a happy ending that brings the Czech couple together.
Painter Johnny Miller bets his friends he can find his house blindfolded. But he stumbles into a bandits' camp, and being mistaken for one of them, is sent to rob the villa of Frank Sellins, a banker, and his niece Lilly.
In his search for the Philosophers' Stone which would enable him to understand the mysteries of the production of gold, Professor Dobner goes in search of the notes of alchemist Melchiad Koloman who, according to legend, had uncovered the mystery and produced gold. Dobner becomes acquainted with the Japanese Nakahito and the Indian Fakír Arkaj and inducts them into his plan. The Fakír wants to demonstrate that he can bring a dead person back to life and suggests to his companions that he could attempt to bring Koloman back to life enabling them to ask him directly for the formula. In order to do this he needs a young, healthy male. Nakahito finds a young rake, Marcel, who has squandered away his fortune and now contemplates suicide. At the promise of an easy life for the duration of one year he agrees to commit himself to the experiment.
