King Oedipus dies a beggar in the exile after gouging out his own eye, and Eteocle agrees to reign in Thebes in alternating years with Polynices. However, he refuses to resign after the first year and Polynieces raises an army and attacks Thebes, and they kill each other. The ruler of Thebes Creon decrees that Eleocles should have an honorable burial while the body of the traitor Polyneices should be left on the battlefield to be eaten by the jackals and vultures. However, Antigone, who was betrothed to Creon's surviving son Haemon, defies Creon's orders and buries her brother. When Creon is reported of the attitude of Antigone, he sentences her to be placed in a tomb alive. Antigone hangs herself in the tomb and Haemon tries to kill his father first and then he kills himself with his sword...

Kostas (Dinos Iliopoulos), a small-time lawyer is tasked with accompanying Smaro (Smaroula Giouli), a young rich heiress, from the country to Athens where she wants to sell her estate. Kostas though starts a day late and Smaro goes to Athens by herself. In the end after much wandering and misunderstandings Kostas will meet Smaro who will fall in love with him.

A young and pretty girl, Violeta, is in love with a kind young artist, Alekos. The feelings are mutual, but the two young people have to face a severe old maid, aunt Pinelopi.

Vangelis is a lazy guy who's trying to earn some money to marry his beloved, but he is captured by the police who confused him with a wanted man. Eventually, the true crook is arrested and Vangelis returns to his beloved.

The young daughter (Anna Synodinou) of a well-off family comes back from Switzerland after completing her studies, married to a young scientist, Thanasakis (Byron Pallis), who comes back to Greece determined to serve his country as a politician. With the financial support of his brother-in-law (Dinos Iliopoulos) he enters the election with no results. Soon though, another election is announced and he decides to run for a second time, again asking support from his brother-in-law who insists that a new campaign would be financial suicide for the family.

A poor builder tries, with the help of his wife, to raise his three children. When he gets killed in an accident at the construction site, his oldest son undertakes the responsibility of providing for the family, facing all difficulties.

Returning to Athens after the end of the World War II, Captain Nikolas finds out what happened to his family from a neighbor.

However, when she does not reciprocate his love, he turns her away. After this, Alfa falls on hard times, while Nora achieves great popular success.

A poor university student, Ntinos Vristhenis, has abandoned his studies due to financial difficulties and is searching for a job. He is hired as an actor in a troupe, where he meets and falls in love with the leading actress. When she yields to a businessman who promises her a bright future, Nikos, feeling disappointed, leaves the theater. Poverty forces him to join the proletariat and become a tobacco worker in order to make ends meet.

In a small village, two very close brothers turn into sworn enemies over the hand of a beautiful Gypsy girl - and confront each other - with tragic consequences.
