Как джойсовский Улисс, потеряв все, что было ему дорого, не может укорениться ни в своем городе, ни в своей семье, так и трое героев этого фильма, трое сирот, однажды уже обездоленных войной, где погибли их родители, ищут убежище подальше от людей и пытаются найти забвение в странных играх в безумие.

События разворачиваются в местечке под названием Бабиндол, что в свободном переводе обозначает «долина женщин». И действительно, над фильмом витают мотивы противоборства полов с упором на возрастные особенности явления, свобода противопоставляется жизненной обыденности, поднимается вопрос личного выбора.

Даже спустя пятнадцать лет героя преследует студенческая шутка, за которую он в 50-х гг. был исключен из института и как враг народа отправлен на службу в штрафном батальоне. Он намеревается отомстить доценту-карьеристу, одному из тех, кто был причиной его несчастий. Но у его мести горький привкус.

An artist's studio is descended upon by a group of retired men and a young mother who agree to model in the nude for money. Comedy ensues as the students and the local bureaucracy react to the models, all in need of extra money. Several running gags border on slapstick as the officials and the students don't know what to do with the nude models.

A verger, who likes to dress as a priest, is invited, by one of the villagers, to be the pastor at a vacant church. The atheist teacher resents the pastor, and tries to embarrass him in various ways, including being caught with the local girl, Majka.

A worker steals bits and pieces of building materials from work to construct a new home for himself and his girlfriend. When he discovers that she’s having an affair with his boss, he devises one elaborate plot after another to murder the rival, each time with pathetic results.

Juraj, a Slovak artist living in Prague, takes stock in his life, realizing that his days pass without purpose. He lives a carefree life. But now he has to choose between two women, between the city and the country, and between creative work and craftsmanship. He has a passion for art but he also has to make a living. Through his relationships with close people, he grows aware of his position and this knowledge helps him to live a more fulfilling and better life.

A dark comedy about a murder and its consequences presented in a backwards manner, where death is actually a rebirth. The film starts with an "execution" of the main protagonist and goes back to explore his previous actions and motivations.

Tram driver Marie has far too much to do after her shift is over. But she likes to do it all since she loves her husband Václav sincerely. One day she spots him on the Lesser Town Square in Prague, kissing an attractive blonde good-bye. It seems to Marie that her small comfortable world has collapsed and she walks out of the tram in tears. But her sadness does not last long. She wipes off the tears and begins to act. She withdraws all the money from their savings books and buys off all the latest models from the Fashion Works. The visit to the beauty salon then completes her transformation into a lady.
