1957, the town of Mostaganem, Algeria: the country is still under French occupation, and repression of the National Liberation Front is at its height. The authorities indulge in torture, intimidation and public executions.

A man is shot down in a provincial airport. Despite his wounds he manages to drag himself to his plane bound for Italy, unaware that the killers are already waiting for him at his destination. Matou ran away in the company of Lena, his employer's girlfriend. But while they were in the open country they got shot at by mysterious pursuers, which was the beginning of a wild manhunt.

A transsexual becomes a star of Paris and lives a crazy love story with the lover of a friend. But the young man comes to his senses and his bourgeois upbringing. A victim of prejudice, Vicky has no choice but to kill herself.

The friends who attended the same boarding school meet and take turns telling their recent romantic experiences. These turn out to be as varied as they are crisp, from the initiation of a student by a teacher to the misunderstanding in the company of a lord, through the false English but true seducer, the swimmer obsessed with his physical condition and, obviously, love in a group (Le Chat Qui Fume).
