The main character Otto, the "best man", is a copy of the illustrious Mister Bean. He takes on an apprenticeship as a building-worker, which makes him a member of a building brigade. At the same time Otto tries to start a love affair, which he handles even clumsier. Never the less Otto makes progress with the lady in question, a single mother, who apparently doesn't mind. Actually he wanted her sister, but a retired Leninist party member changes his mind. This gives him the courage to persevere in his work, albeit with the helping hand of the obligatory retired party member. And behold, in the end Otto invents a new method of building, which saves the brigade many hours of work.

35-year old ballet soloist Peter ends his career as a performance dancer and, on the occasion of his last stage performance, looks back on his career and his life. Peter′s retrospection is centred on the relationship with his professional and romantic partner Lotte, who he had once met at a joint performance. Peter remembers the landmarks of their love: their marriage, their child, and Lotte′s severe illness that threatened to end her career. In flashbacks, the film shows how the couple survived this crisis by working sacrificially to return to the stage and celebrate international success.

The children’s film is based on Wenjamin Kawerin’s short story "Leichte Schritte". It centers on the ten-year-old Peter who is in love with his classmate Una. Much to his despair, however, Una is attracted to another classmate. Peter escapes into a dream world in which he spends a wonderful time with a girlfriend made from snow. As springtime arrives, the snow girl is threatened by the thaw. In order to preserve their friendship, Peter locks his "Una" into a cold store.

The crew of a small Saßnitz fisherman has problems with the "making a cultural socialist life". In order not to lose the competition prize again in the future, they want to show the organizer a collective weekend with all the trimmings. And they really do not mind ...

Helmut Kamp, the construction brigade leader, a man no longer young, life immediately confronted several difficult and woeful problems. The birth of a son, the tragic death of his wife, the relationship of his daughter Ingrid with Dr. Beißert coincided with the need to move to an uninhabited area where a nuclear power plant will be built. Kamp, Ingrid and the members of the friendly brigade decide to act as the duty and the feeling of partnership prompts them, and gradually they all become participants in the new construction...

In this East German teen musical, a group of girls are planning to take their summer vacation together on the Baltic coast. When a loud and obnoxious group of boys intrudes on their holiday, the girls are horrified to learn that the boys have the same vacations plans as them. The two groups quarrel with each other and compete over a number of things, but gradually an attraction starts to form.

Готовится открытие Лейпцигской промышленной выставки, на которой должен демонстрироваться усовершенствованный подъемный кран, построенный в ГДР. Инженер Зибелка получает от иностранной разведки задание подстроить катастрофу с краном во время демонстрации. Зибелка решает налить в главный цилиндр крана кислоту, которая на шпионском шифре носит название духов «Черный бархат». Это должно привести к аварии. Сотрудник органов безопасности Берг вместе со своими товарищами разоблачает диверсионную деятельность Зибелки и предотвращает аварию крана.

Молодой инженер Эрик Беккер, бывший гражданин Восточной Германии, живет в Швеции, в Стокгольме. Ему предлагают работу в Западной Германии, и он летит во Франкфурт. Тут в силу ряда обстоятельств он оказывается завербованным в западногерманскую разведку и получает свое первое задание.

Andreas works as an assistant in his father’s small-town bakery. However, he actually has other plans: As a passionate trumpeter, he wants to study music in Berlin. His father is less than thrilled and wants his son to take over the bakery. Therefore, Andreas decides to try his luck in Berlin and starts working in a wholesale bakery together with his friend Paul. Incidentally, the in-house band is looking for a trumpeter.

О судьбе двух школьных товарищей — сына рабочего Георга и мелкого фабриканта Кристофа. О том, как разошлись их жизненные пути, как по-разному отнеслись они к гитлеровскому режиму, войне, о месте, которое занял в жизни каждый из них.

Когда-то давным-давно жил ленивый мельник, который все свое время проводил, попивая вино и рассказывая небылицы. Когда казначей короля приходит на мельницу с требованием оплатить налог, мельник лжет, что его дочь Мари может прясть из соломы золото. Отцу и дочери приказывают прийти во дворец, где Мари запирают в башне, полной соломы. Король приказывает ей под страхом наказания перепрясть всю солому в золото к следующему утру. Конечно, она не знает, как прясть из соломы золото. И тут ей на помощь приходит маленький эльф. Девушка отдает ему все свои украшения в обмен на помощь, но король требует ещё больше золота и ей приходится пообещать маленькому эльфу своего будущего первенца. Король берет Мари в жены. Пролетел год и после рождения ребенка к Мари явился маленький эльф и потребовал обещанное — дитя королевы. Мари умоляет эльфа оставить ей дитя, и эльф соглашается с одним условием — королева должна назвать его имя. Кто же придет на помощь Мари?

В острой сатирической форме фильм высмеивает психоз, вызванный гонкой вооружений и пропагандой "красной опасности". Действие происходит во второй половине XX века в Западной Германии. Кино, радио, пресса - все вопят об атомной войне, об агрессивных планах русских. Военный психоз достигает такой степени, что очередная пропагандистская радиопередача, посвященная будущей третьей мировой войне, принимается за сообщение о реальной опасности.
