Король празднует Рождество в замке в окружении двора и верных рыцарей, куда вдруг заявляется загадочный Зелёный Рыцарь и предлагает принять его вызов. Любой из присутствующих может нанести ему удар, но через год и один день он должен будет встретится с Зелёным Рыцарем в зелёной часовне в девяти днях пути на север и принять удар в ответ. He promises to help find her husband.
