Девятиклассники сельской школы решили организовать свой молодежный колхоз, своими силами вырастить и собрать урожай. Идею поддержал директор школы. И хотя не все было просто в молодежном коллективе, задуманное они осуществили, поверили в свои силы.
В клинику научно-исследовательского института доставляют тяжелобольного. Молодой врач Фалько, ординатор института, настаивает на срочной операции, но его руководитель Друзь считает, что в данном случае терапевтическое лечение будет более эффективным и, к тому же, не будет связано с риском. Профессор Шостенко тем не менее берется оперировать больного. Благополучно завершившаяся операция подтверждает диагноз, поставленный Фалько. Параллельно событиям в клинике действие развивается в доме директора института Шостенко, куда возвращается после трехлетнего отсутствия сын Игорь. Сложные отношения между Игорем и его женой, история любви дочери Шостенко и Друзя - канва второго сюжета фильма.
