Nurse Sinikka (Pirkko Peltonen) wants to help a prisoner (Toivo Lehkonen) who crosses the border from the Soviet Union. She and her fiancé (Ville-Veikko Salminen) plan a flight via Finland with the help of her mother (Irma Seikkula). Ruth (Maija Karhi), the girlfriend of Sinikka's brother (Antti Litja), happens to witness the escape, which puts them all in danger.

A drama about the love and subsequent life story of agronom Elmer Oras and Margi Kaski and their son. The story has its origins just before the Winter War. After a brief encounter, both fell in love. When the Winter War breaks out, Arttu (Jussi Jurkka), the son of Helena (Irma Seikkula) and Jari Junkkeri (Erkki Viljos), go to the front. Arttu proposes to his girlfriend Elina (Leena Häkinen), but the world events come in between. When he is not heard of at the end of the war, the relatives begin to believe that Arttu is dead - everybody else but not Helena.
