High in the mountains of Macedonia a team of young film makers are making a documentary about Katerina Vandeva - a descendant of an ancient and very famous family. Several former state and party functionaries interfere in the filmmaking in the hopes of manipulating Katerina's confessions for their own purposes. Nikola, the director, and his friends have to make the choice - whether to compromise with their consciences and their art, (as normally happens here in the Balkans), or whether to preserve Katerina's message.

A photographer makes a journey to East Europe to document traces of the past, birth of the new, recovery of long forgotten traditions.

The major force in this story is the children - the group of mischievous girls and boys who can play all the time. They find an antique amphora at the bottom of the sea. Since there is an amphora, there must be a frigate. There is a mystery cave in which the captain goes empty handed and comes out with full packs. That is how the search begins. The children and the adults are passionate about it. Instead of a frigate, they find a truth: "We do not need much to have fun."

In order to be a part of her world he agrees to pay as stand-in for a movie in which she has a small role. During the premiere, the actor gets all the fame and the stand-in stay unnoticed.

Gallows is being raised in a prison yard. A moment before the execution the Girl brings a document of the young communist's temporary pardon. The chief of the prison, the Major, has a mandolin collection. He offers a fistfight to the young communist. The young man hits him. The Major and the young communist start playing the mandolins together. Girl is allowed to meet the young communist. The boy begins to play. The melody brings to the Major pleasant memories. He fought in the Spanish civil war, but after the defeat, he turned back on his beliefs. The Major receives a telegram that he needs to send the young communist to another prison. Death awaits him there. In is rage the Major breaks the mandolins. He orders the young communist to be taken out to work. The young man runs off. The Major shoots him himself.

Chavdar gets a degree in geology. He wishes to pursue a scientific carrier, but his father decides that his son should practice his profession in a rich of mineral Rhodopa Mountain. Chavdar meets geologists and locals who love their profession and the region. Here he finds true love with Vanya, a girl born and raised in the mountain. She is a part time geologist student and dreams of finding new ore sources. Chavdar has to leave, and he bids farewell to his friends, certain that one day he will come back to continue his search.

At the end of 13th and the beginning of the 14th century twenty-four-years old, Prince Svetoslav Terter takes the helm of the state. The young Prince engages in a intricate political game, into getting his way by means of court intrigues, and is forced by circumstances. Svetoslav Terter is remarkably shrewd and consistent. He is perhaps the only head of state at this time to take the liberty of impeaching the primate of the country's church. He tries to rally the neighboring Slav people to a joint resistance to the Turkish conquest. Terter lives through a great personal tragedy. В дворцовом саду молодой художник Ферхад внезапно встречается с шествующими в окружении придворных и дворцовой стражи царицей Мехменэ Бану и ее сестрой Ширин. Сестры встречаются взглядами с Ферхадом, и в их сердцах вспыхивает любовь к юноше. Ферхад покорен красотой юной Ширин. Девушку и юношу неодолимо влечет друг к другу. Мехменэ Бану охвачена страстью к Ферхаду. Ничто не может отвлечь ее мыслей от прекрасного юноши. Она в отчаянии понимает, что теперь ей, потерявшей красоту, недоступна любовь Ферхада. Тщетны мольбы влюбленных даровать им счастье. Мехменэ Бану ставит перед Ферхадом непреодолимое условие: он получит Ширин, если сумеет пробить железную гору, закрывающую путь воде, которая является источником жизни для народа.

Кинодрама, рассказывающая историю экипажа болгарского крейсера в историческом 1918 году. Экипаж крейсера, отправленного в Севастополь для планировавшегося вмешательства против России, узнал истинную цель похода и тот факт, что война закончилась. Моряки отказались подчиняться командующему. Коммунист Боян Милев принял командование. По желанию всех моряков, крейсер должен отправиться обратно в Болгарию на следующее утро. Однако среди моряков есть предатель, который помог арестованному капитану освободиться и повредить корабельную технику, поэтому «Надежда» не сможет плыть на следующий день. Повстанцев везут в Болгарию, где они будут привлечены к ответственности.

Фильм о великом болгарском поэте Николе Йонкове Вапцарове. В молодости Вапцаров хотел быть свободным и поэтому поступил в морское училище в Варне, полагая, что военно-морская служба предоставит ему эту свободу. Но тяжелая казарменная жизнь убеждает его в обратном, и под влиянием друга, коммуниста Влада, Вапцаров начинает понимать суть фашистского режима в Болгарии и необходимость бороться с ним вместе с рабочим классом. После окончания морского училища Вапцаров работает пожарным, охотно изучает и пишет стихи. Он становится членом Коммунистической партии Болгарии и помогает организовать рабочих. Однако он был уволен и вынужден искать работу в Софии. Он отвергает заманчивое предложение фашистских газет и постоянно посвящает себя литературной работе. После немецкой оккупации Болгарии он был арестован и казнён в 1942 году.
