Maxim is an artistic examination of the unconscious, oppressed, forgotten and traumatic past, of the reality full of treachery and violence, which casts a shadow on the life of a young man, forcing him to kill in order to save, to kill in order to continue living, to run in order to get away from the shadow in which he exists. Maxim is a synonym and a way to confront the dualism of the awareness where the subconscious mind and destiny are the carriers of the story in the movie - alter ego.

1940 год, Сибирь. Самый страшный лагерь для политзаключенных. Небольшая группа осужденных смогла вырваться из этого страшного места. Теперь их ждет путь домой. Долгий, очень трудный, минуя пустыни и горы, сталкиваясь с дикими животными и незнакомыми людьми. Они идут домой из последних сил, надеясь на встречу со своими близкими.

Студент колледжа получает извещение о том, что он унаследовал заброшенный дом. Отправившись с друзьями, обследовать свои новые владения, он нечаянно вынимает из камня подозрительно торчащий меч, тем самым нарушая древнее заклятие и невольно выпуская монстра на свободу…

Two millennia ago, a Lybian king has a basilisk (snake-shaped dragon), which petrifies people, subjected to the same fate with a golden scepter during a solar eclipse. Both these and several victims are dug up by modern archaeologist Harrison 'Harry' McColl's expedition. Despite a cryptic warning from tribal locals, everything goes to his Colorado university's museum. It's all exhibited during another eclipse, which leads to the monster reviving. Harry and some of his friends must try to petrify the monster again.
