The amazing story of the animograph, a machine created in France in the sixties by the cartoonist and self-taught inventor Jean Dejoux (1922-2015), whose creation was intended to revolutionize the animation industry.
Ian and his sister Marina live on a beautiful tropical island with their Uncle Patrick, an old sailor who tells them wonderful stories and makes magical pictures with his pipe smoke. Among their friends are Jean-Sebastian, a great joke teller who can talk to the sea animals, Raoul the Koala Bear and Flem the living clock.
When the merry band meet Zoom the White Dolphin and his family, they get caught up in a series of exciting adventures as they explore caves, shipwrecks and the mysterious world beneath the waves.
At the end of the first Space Age wave, bird-like and bowler-hatted creatures enter the TV screen. The Shadoks and the Gibis live on distant two-dimensional planets. Jacques Rouxel’s absurdly funny, minimalist animated science fiction world of drawings is spiked with the electro-acoustic, cartoon-like, extra-terrestrial sounds of the composer Robert Cohen-Solal, well-versed in musique concrète.
